Samsung didn’t waste any time on this one and has made their SCH-W880 official already making it the world’s first 12-megapixel camera phone.

Aside from its 12-megapixel autofocus camera, 3x optical zoom and Xenon flash, it’s now also confirmed to come with a 3.3-inch WVGA 800×480 AMOLED touchscreen, HSDPA connectivity, WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, DMB mobile TV support, 4GB of internal memory, and a microSD card slot for additional storage. Also being referred to as the M8920, it also boasts of touch autofocus, image stabilization, face detection, Smart Auto modes, and 720p video recording at 30fps as well dedicated camera controls that are specifically designed to give this phone a more camera feel to it.
It set to hit retail stores in Korea beginning next month and will also be known as the Samsung AMOLED 12M. Unfortunately, an international release wasn’t mentioned in the announcement so there’s a possibility that this might be exclusive phone to Korea. We’re definitely hoping that the contrary will be true, but if this is the case, then we’re pinning our hopes on the Sony Ericsson Satio, another 12-megapixel camera phone, to hit the North American market sooner than later.
